Creating a Local Community of Musicians: “Juicy Trees”
| Project Scope: Musical Performance, Composition, and Community Management
| Project Date: 2023 onwards
Music has been a big part of my identity — I grew up playing many instruments from the piano and double bass to the guitar and drums, so I found myself involved in a lot of music groups. I played in high school orchestra, concert band, and jazz band where I traveled internationally to play in inter-school orchestras, and joined a rock band in college.
A year after I moved to San Francisco, in 2023, I found a couple friends who played music. What started as a couple jam sessions soon turned into a group of 70+ local musicians with weekly jams and monthly public performances. The collective, named “Juicy Trees” (not long but long story), became a creative outlet that gifted me with a group of lifelong friends.
I created and managed our Instagram account to document memories and bring the community together, and at our big concert at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco, I debuted my first song, “Something to Cry For”, in front of an audience of 200.
While I am no longer in San Francisco, the community is still alive and these memories are a core part of me.
