Comparing Human and AI Traits: “Our Building Blocks”

| Project Scope: Writing, Generative AI
| Project Date: 2025 onwards

As we build AI agents to replace tasks previously performed by humans, I became curious about how the building blocks of AI agents differ from that of humans. What makes humans different from AI? What gaps can, or should, AI fill? To explore these questions, I started a writing series called “Our Building Blocks” to explore the factors AI and humans have — and don’t have — in common.

Each essay in Our Building Blocks compares a foundational component of human experience with its counterpart in AI agents. The topics so far include:

  • Memory: How humans and AI store, retrieve, and forget

  • Decision-Making: How decisions are made — the system and values we follow

  • Creativity: What creativity means for humans vs. AI

  • Personality & Character: Why your chatbot appears funny, friendly, or empathetic
